November 17, 2008: To Be In Love . . .

I've been told that it "must be the sweetest feeling that a girl can feel." And yet, I can't help but wonder if there aren't girls out there who think it'd be pretty sweet to be behind the control of a VF-1J Veritech Valkyrie. Screeching towards a Zentradi cruiser, the space around you alight with laser fire and the explosions of mini-missiles caught in your chaff, you shift into Battloid mode and execute a gut-wrenching turn to stick your gunpod in the face the Glaug on your six. Then, you shift back into Fighter mode and rocket away, through the debris of your foe before more mini-missiles can come crashing into you. And battle's only just started . . .

Or, yeah, I guess you could do the singing and falling-in-love and Miss Macross thing, too. Me? I'm more about the flying, shooting, and what-have-you.

I'm also, I admit, more of a Super Dimensional Fortress Macross fan than a Robotech fan. But that doesn't really stop me from enjoying the Robotech: The Macross Saga Sourcebook. Fans of Robotech will get a lot out of the book, as it's packed with setting information. But for people like me, even if I discard the bulk of the fluff, there's still a lot of great rules for all the mecha and gear from the series. And I do mean all of 'em. Even those cool Lancers you see for maybe 20 seconds in the second episode.

Star Hero: Scourges of the Galaxy

Scum And Villainy

Every great hero needs an equally great villain as his nemesis. In a Star Hero campaign having just the right enemies for your heroes makes the game perfect. That's what Scourge of the Galaxy offers you - dozens of science fiction villains that add even more fun to any campaign! It includes:

  • five master villains: Archimandrite Landol Callixtus, corrupt church leader from the planet Polyphemus; Geiger "Mind Master" Cray, a Mind Police officer with a secret agenda; the Machiavellian politician Senator Leopold D'Estaing; King Narch, leader of the terrifying Xenovore Fleet; and Tateklys, the Malvan leader of the Hzeel Outfit
  • four organizations: the Church of the Infinite Dark, a cult of powerful "Void Messiahs" devoted to reshaping the Universe to suit its foul gods; the Clone Mob, a criminal organization with almost a half million identical members; Pelga's Fist, a crew of bloodthirsty space pirates; and the Psindicate, a psionic criminal conspiracy whose tendrils reach across the Galaxy
  • a dozen solo adversaries, including mercenary xenoarcheologist Lucas Bellair, rogue telepathic assassin Darryl Revok, master pilot and smuggler Double H, mad scientist Dr. Maximilian Landau, and cybernetic bounty hunter Blackjack Thorson

Even better, each villain comes with plot seeds, suggestions on how to use him in your campaign, and other useful information. So tell your heroes to get ready - it's time for them to face the Scourges of the Galaxy!
